Recently I've been playing a lot of Super Metroid, having downloaded it for the Virtual Console. I've been playing through it in an attempt to get an 100% item collection rate, and I've also started a new slot where I tried beating it in under three hours (I got 2:10! So, sexy, cheesy 90's no-suit Samus time Razz) It's still absolutely brilliant, and it's still one of my favourite games, even after a decade of other ones. Everything's just so well designed, and one of the main things I've noticed on playing it again is how amazing and atmospheric the music is, especially in places like Brinstar. Anyway, screw attack is fun!

I didn't manage to get Phantom Hourglass today, but that'll probably be the next game I'll play. Should be brilliant!

I did. Takes a bit of getting used to, but it's worth it. The Tektites on that game are a pain mind. The first boss is depressingly easy though, so I'm hoping the bosses begin to pick up in difficulty. Apart from that, the islands are, thus far, sort of bland, but asides from those two it's a good game at the moment.

I think Super Metroid is sex in sprites and engines as well. Got a ROM of it once and decided it's impossible to play with a keyboard, so now it's out I'm hacking through it in little bursts, although I haven't hit the Krocomire or Kraid yet. Don't remember Spore Spawn being that evil either. Oh well.

Anyway, I'm off to see if I can fit a demon Chimney to my ship (I'm making my own Ghost Ship Razz).

I finished Phantom Hourglass about a week or two ago (all except four Courage Gems).

SWEET AND SEXY.

While I was slightly disappointed as I was expecting a Wind Waker level of tons-of-stuff-to-do (there's no analogue to Windfall Island in PH), it's still a great game in its own right. I few rather difficult minigames kept me going for a while.

I'm mostly playing freeware and really old games, since I don't have a Wii yet.
I'm replaying Cave Story, because it's the best freeware game ever made, and anyone who hasn't played it yet should be ashamed of themselves.
I'm also replaying the original Banjo-Kazooie. It's just as fun as it ever was.
Lastly, I'm playing an online adventure game called Mystery of Time and Space. If you love adventure games, you must play this game right now. Or I will cut you in half.

Me too.

Online Adventure? You mean like a massive RPG where a lot of people play at once? I got one recently called Last Chaos. It's freeware since I would not pay for one. It's pretty good so far, although it's probably no WoW, but still good. I'm a Sorcerer named Rocan, just in case someone else decides to play.

No, it's not an MMO, I just meant you find it online. It isn't multiplayer.

Many lots of people should play this especially if you enjoy dectective games like Phoneix Wright. You need a snes emulator which can be found here.

The reason my text style is so obnoxious is because I posted this before the forum crash and everyone fecking ignored me.

Anymore good finds on Home of the Underdogs will be appreciated.

So I beat Super Paper Mario today... SPOILERS ABOUND.

What an atrociously convoluted plot twist, eh? I believed it until Dimentio turned up and explained that he was evil after all and then Bleck turned good, for chrissakes. Also, I was never really comfortable with Bowser being a good guy for this game - if he'd stabbed them in the back at the end I would have let it go, but that part of the plot was mishandled. Credits were a bit crap, too. Still, a quite outstanding game overall, save for the absurdly low level of difficulty. And I do like the way you can save after beating the main boss and carry on playing - it always bugged me that you couldn't do that in the previous games. Oh, also, does anyone know what you get for beating the Pit of 100 Trials? I got as far as Room 100 today before getting killed, and for obvious reasons I don't really want to go through all that again unless the prize is particularly cool. That said, though, I thought the pit was very well done.

Srsly I dunno what it is with you guys and game difficulty... I don't WANT to get stuck on a part for half an hour because it's completely gay! If I've looked around for ages and still can't figure out how to do something, I'll just go and look on GameFAQs. I don't understand why anyone would want to get stuck in a game.

For completing the Pit of 100 Trials, you get a Pixl which helps you go really rather fast.

THAT WAS A SPOILER

It adds a sense of accomplishment when you get past it. The feeling of realisation after days of wondering about a tricky puzzle by far outweighs the trauma you undergo trying to figure it out. We're not talking about fake difficulty (which does indeed suck a whole bunch of arse) but genuine difficulty, which takes time, thought and ingenuity to implement. In the entire game, I don't remember getting that thrill of revelation even once.

Bosses are the most significant victims of this general decline. If you don't believe me, take a real-world example: the Zelda series. As you know, in Twilight Princess, the final boss was very easy. I beat it the first time round (possibly the second, but no more). Afterwards, I was overcome with a sense of disappointment that the final boss offered so little challenge. It had been fun, yeah, but I'd expected a nice durable challenge that would require time and effort.

Compare this to Ocarina of Time. I still haven't beaten Ganondorf, it is that hard. Sure, whenever I try, I get a tad frustrated, but I know it isn't impossible and that one day I'll manage it. And the sense of achievement I'll get at having finally felled that game will be immense.

So, yeah. MORE CHALLENGE IN GAMES PLZ NINTENDO

Yeah, I beat OoT Ganondorf on the first try without getting hit and I needed two or three fairies for TP Ganondorf. Takes all sorts, I guess.

No offense, Upsilon, but I too find it hard to believe that defeating OoT Ganondorf is difficult.

As far as difficulty... I definitely don't want my games to be effortless. Then I'm not really playing a game, I'm just doing a chore. It's honestly not fun if it's not hard, it's just routine.

At the same time, things like the Sonic game for the 360 are difficult without being rewarding. Like there's so much glitchy crap you can get stuck on, and you have to stare at 8 minutes of a loading screen every time you want to try a mandatory mini-game that's been poorly concieved and executed. Like really, the fact that they made those stupid mini-games required for progressing in the story is crap. : P

I've played some hard games that I absolutely loathed. They were difficult in the way that the control scheme and gameplay were more difficult than the opposition. Usually in those cases, I decide the game isn't worth my time and I use a walkthrough or cheat my way through, depending on what seems funnier at the time.

Harsh.

If it helps, Upsi, I thought Ganodorf was... moderately challenging?

I think I got far enough to right Phantom Ganon. He was.. moderate. But I don't really remember. I could never be bothered to get to real Ganon. Just like I still haven't bothered to complete LoZ:TP.

I just started playing SSBM again. I've become a dodge junkie. It's all I seem to do, but it works. Razz

Because I don't have "access" to it any more. It's a long story, but my parents pretty much banned most video games in my house Sad.
