Two things:

- Marth

- Roy

These guys were both Japan-only characters before Melee. (And yes they were cool yo)

Also I did see Stafy on a poster in Mario&Luigi Super Star Saga (which was in America, so he's not completely Japan-only Razz) and that's pretty much the only thing I know about this guy other than that I've seen him in numorus ammounts of mock-Melee rosters and character requests. So yes I am one of the ones who is glad that he is not playable.

Alright, that's not entirely fair. A bunch of previously single-player only missions having a co-op mode is nice.

On the flip side, look forward to most of the incidental information here (coin battle, for one) being regurgitated as independant updates later. Because unil Febuary, there's no end to the amount of redundant information Sakurai can tell us!

Hmm, I wonder if beating it on co-op qualifies you for the rewards you'd get beating it on single player? I mean, trouble king's presumably gonna be a lot easier 2 v 2.

Hopefully that's the case! Some of those events were so $@#%ing hard before. Remember the ones where you had to beat like 6 guys back to back and your hp didn't reset? #@%*@#%@#%*%&

Oh! I see! Delegation of duties is important!

And with that, Sakurai never wrote another update himself, instead dragging in a random tramp each morning to write it for him. Because delegation of duties is important!

I reckon there'll probably be different sets of rewards for beating solo Event mode and co-op Event mode. Perhaps they'll each unlock a stage: for the former, Final Destination; for the latter, Masahiro Sakurai's Noggin. Surprised That's the way I'd set it up, anyway.

As for the difficulty... Even though you'll have a teammate, I expect the challenges will get ramped up appropriately as well (toward the end, at the very least).

Wow. This is a great game for couples.

My thoughts exactly. Lucca enjoys Smash, but not the competitive aspect, so with Melee we've very few multiplayer options beyond simple team matches against CPUs in VS mode. But with Brawl, it's fantastic to be able to look forward to such a deep and varied co-op experience. Grin Lune

I wonder if Cheese Monkey's recovered from his nervous breakdown yet. I don't think this update was a total fail, at least.

This stage is ORSHUM! I really hope it's not Brinstar Depths' replacement though... if that were the case, it'd be kind of lame.

As interesting as this level is - I don't recall it doing that in Metroid Prime. I'm kind of hoping gaps in the containment shield appear in the background and the Parasite Queen fires lasers of doom out at the players.

The music, although I've heard it before in the Mother 3 music compilation on iTunes, reminds me of the (darker) march that opens Mahler's 6th.

Lawl.

You realize most stages from Melee will NOT be making it back, right? We know about Temple, and I hope they'll include Corneria and maybe Yoshi's Island (not Yoshi's Story) in there somewhere.

But wow. Two Metroid stages so close together. Samus is lucky, getting her stage count maxed out so quickly... Razz

You know what this means? A second Metroid character. Unless they're going to have two stages per character, we're going to have a second Metroid character. Possibly Dark Samus, or one of the Hunters (I dunno any of them since I haven't played Hunters or MP3 yet)

Lessee, hmm. That makes the second franchise to reach two stages! (as far as I can tell, Mas-Saki is treating Wario-Ware and Yoshi as separate franchises from the main-line Mario franchise)

Hopefully we'll get either another StarFox stage or another Zelda stage next.

Interesting idea: You know how he has the "Past Pokemon" and "Melee Stages" things, well, what if he has an update that's just "Returning Characters" that includes all of the other characters that haven't been announced yet, like Luigi*, Ganondorf, Falco, Captain Falcon*, etc.

*Well, maybe these characters will get their own updates. Hopfully.

Now, I know the Smash series is free to make adjustments here and there to characters' relative sizes, but... well...

Just saying. Razz

That's why I want Brinstar Depths to be a stage again.

Eww, Dark Samus is just a recolor, and Luigi will be filling that minimal quota. And "Dark Samus'" previous existence as Metroid Prime would make a much better Subspace Emissary boss.

RIDLEY. He's been on the cover of a Metroid game before, he's the man. He'll give the developers another playable boss and give them more mileage for their new gliding mechanic. He was also on the voting list, and fully rendered and animated in Melee's intro. He's also got his own music in Brawl! If Ridely isn't playable in this game I'll make you eat your hats.

That means you'd better hope along with me, unless you like the taste of hats.

Team Healer is actually a pretty neat concept. But, uh, least imaginative name ever. Seriously, the entire history of Nintendo at your beck and call, and you can't pull something out?

Yeah, it'd be kind of shocking at this point if he wasn't playable. And yeah I'd love to see him, man.

As for this update...heh. My heart kind of stopped in my chest until I realized what this was. Initially? I thought it meant 'team healer' as in 'if you have a team of 2 people, one of them can opt to be a healer'. My mind's a bit fuzzy since I just woke up, so this made sense to me up until the end, and I was imagining some kind of intricate heal-system whereby each character had their own unique healsets.

Remember kids, don't sleep and read smash updates in the same 30-minute timeframes, or NOTHING YOU THINK WILL MAKE SENSE.

A parade of Kirby hats! I must say, the best-in-show award has to go to Snake hat. Runner-up: Meta Knight hat.

Some of the funniest pictures I've seen all week.

Best bit: the exquisite detail on Mario's jeans as he gets eaten horribly.

Awesome update, I'd say! Snake Kirby and Squirtle Kirby are made of win. Wink Plus, we finally found out Dedede's neutral-B move.

The only hats we didn't see are Ice Climbers, Ike, Lucas, and Sonic. Odd that three of those four are newcomers. Confused

Yeah it was a good update. Best week in a while, IMO. But I have a question, how do we know King Dedede's nuetral B and what is it? It just shows Kirby going MAAAAAAH with the Dedede hat on.

You dont think he has copy too?

Yeah that's what I thought at first and I was like HUH?!?!, but if ya look at the motion of the air

it ~kinda~ looks like it's pushing away from him. So maybe that's King Dedede's B? O_o I'm not sure either.
