I'm pleased to see I'm not the only one who didn't find this update to be the MIND-BLOWING EXTRAVAGANZA it seems to be in this thread.
Also, I made my own irrefutable scale. See where you fall on it!

I liek this update. Yay for those who like the old-school Wario.
Argh. Like KBK said, it's just stupid that they gave this to Wario and only a stupid recolor for Samus' Fusion Suit.
Ridley's stage: Norfair. It's like, telling us this right here. Because Ridley was almost always found in Norfair in the old Metroid games, and yeah, with his theme, and then there's the other heavy-weight characters, and the need for another Metroid character.
Yeah, Ridley's probably going to be in Brawl.
I'm gonna do the SONIC IN BRAWL FAN thing, and give Ridely an 86% chance that he'll be in Brawl.
When on earth are they going to give us "Zelda: Special Moves". Zelda wasn't playable at the E3 thing was she? Maybe they're still deciding weather or not to have Shiek as a part of her moveset or not. _________________ http://gadgettr.deviantart.com/ |

Lol @ Wario's armpit fat.
Also, I'd guess it's more likely Ridley will appear as a boss rather than as a proper playable character. When you think about it, if Ridley was a playable character he'd most likely be a fully playable clone of Charizard without having to switch out for Kraid or Crocomire or whatever.
Not to say it wouldn't be immense amounts of awesome to have Ridley in it. He'd probably be my choice if he is. Meta Knight can go hang. |

@JK: Erm, the entire point of my post was that there's just SOME JP stuff I don't tolerate, and (classic) Wario never fell over the line into that category. Just Warioware.
@KBK: Ridley? Eh. Honestly I'd rather see Geno. Isn't ridley too big, anyway? o.o
Belmont? Never played the series, but w/e.

| I guess I just don't understand why you made the distiction that WarioWare is Japanese in the first place. It seems like a wholy irrevelant detail, especially considering the original Wario games aren't any different in that respect. |

Well, I won't dispute the fact that today's update is good news. But honestly, Sakurai would've had to be a total arsecrumpet to completely omit Wario's traditional costume. That, and this should've simply been included in ye olde "Color Changes" update.
...But meh. Mayhaps a bland update today means that we'll get something absolutely earth-shattering tomorrow!
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to set up a safety net for my hopes and dreams when they all come crashing violently down. _________________ "" |

In the original NES Metroid and the Smash Bros. Melee opening movie, Ridely is only slightly taller than Samus. Posture can be a factor as well. _________________
But you can probably drop me and tell Lester to do my panel instead, since he's already gay and frankly I really don't care about my sexual orientation. Well, on the whole a lot of stuff that comes from Japan (e.g. most if not all Nintendo games) are either localized very well or are close enough to our culture to begin with that most of us can play them without much of that "wtf" syndrome. A good example is Earthbound; itself a partial parody of the western world, it was just quirky enough to be likeable without throwing any "wtf" into your face.
Animes are perhaps a better example (barring the overpopularized ones, e.g. DBZ/Pokemon/etc.); some are easily related to and appreciated by the more casual fan, others... just won't make any sense no matter which way you look at them (unless your way involves being drunk and/or high).
And yes, I'm aware that there are some people (most notably those who refer to themselves as "otaku") who are so used to and "appreciative" of Japanese culture that they'll take anything the country throws at them regardless of context, amount of sense it makes, or even age demographic (I've had to remind the prez of TU's anime club on multiple occasions that casual anime fans do not, in fact, prefer seeing things that were made for 5-year-olds in Japan ). We're casually ignoring these people for this exercise. _________________ This post has been brought to you by

It seems as if your qualms with Wario Ware lie outside gameplay, despite that gameplay is the only thing that matters in a video game, or any type of game for that matter. _________________
But you can probably drop me and tell Lester to do my panel instead, since he's already gay and frankly I really don't care about my sexual orientation. Fragg makes a very good point, and I'm gonna have to add "Ouch, burn" to it. I love the WarioWare series for their simplicity and crazy random fun, but I find EarthBound to be uncomfortably weird.
For the record, I love a lot of things from Japan, and yes, I do appreciate the culture. I know at least enough of the language to survive there, as was proven when I went there. But I don't drink or do drugs, that's an unfair generalization. I know you weren't making a personal attack, but to assume someone must be under the influence to understand or like something can be taken as such.
For an example of something I don't blindly adore simply because it's Japanese - Evangelion sucks no matter which way you slice it. That's an emo "weird for the sake of weird" series that overhyped itself, went over budget and ultimately slit its own throat. _________________

The drunk/high thing was a joke, first of all.
And yes, of course my qualms with Wario are not with gameplay. I'm not sure how that makes my opinion invalid... after all, supporting or not supporting (or just not caring) whether Character X is in the game usually refers to whether they like the character in the first place (except in the case of Melee's clone characters). _________________ This post has been brought to you by

Tuesday 12/25:
NICE. Of course, yeah, we already knew about Super Sonic, but the pics of it rock and it looks like, again, Sakurai and the crew are taking better care of Sonic than... well, Sonic Team themselves have as of late.
And Angel Island zone. That music is bloody sweet. I'll probably be turning off/down to minimum Live and Learn, though... damn vocal tracks always get in the way of mah fightin'z. (Yes, even the DK rap) _________________ This post has been brought to you by

I love eletric guitar music a lot, but it's beneath some songs, Angel Island and probably any other 16-bit Sonic game music is included.
The same thing happened to F-Zero. F-Zero music once conveyed the spirit of competition in epic grandeur, now it's TOTALEE H4RDK0RR3 2DXTR33M!!!1 _________________
But you can probably drop me and tell Lester to do my panel instead, since he's already gay and frankly I really don't care about my sexual orientation. Sonic's Final Smash? I WANTED ZELDA'S!!
Oh well.
The music is what keeps this update from being FAIL. I liked it personally. And I also like how it moved into the Act 2 version after it played once.
@Chiz, meybee... it's a timezone thing... yeah. Maybe tomorrow?

Do the Japanese really celebrate Christmas? At least, as much as we do? Keep that in mind; they weren't going to release anything earth-shaking. _________________ This post has been brought to you by

Ah. I've just seen a couple JP people on other forums say "Merry Christmas..." I couldn't tell if that was them celebrating it themselves or just being friendly.
Anyway, I wonder what the Sonic stage(s) will be... perhaps Angel Island itself? That would be rather cool. Though my personal favorite Sonic music is the Flying Battery zone... but, whatever. _________________ This post has been brought to you by

In Japan, Santa Claus is known as Annual Gift Man.
I heard this on an episode of The Simpsons, this may or may not be true. _________________
But you can probably drop me and tell Lester to do my panel instead, since he's already gay and frankly I really don't care about my sexual orientation.
|

Ooooh, that'd be a good one.
I mean heck, there's a lot of good potential sonic levels - they could throw every level from every game into a hat, yank one out at random, and still get something really easy to make a sick level out of.
This is actually one thing I never understood - sonic has a lot of levels, a lot of items, and a ton of characters. Why did they never try to emulate smash brothers? Sonic Shuffle was their answer to mario party, and it was a pretty good game in its own right, but as far as I know the only sonic fighting game was a reeeeeaally old one... a newer one would've been awesome.
I guess it's too late now, but still.. = ( _________________
THis game really is more geared towards the adult then, teenbeat wow. This mmo makes u think, somthing a teenager hates to do. -Skopas, eloquently discussing how grown up AoC is.

While Christianity itself didn't catch on big in Japan, alot of Christian holidays became part of thier culture, such as St. Valentine's Day and Christmas. Christmas is just as big in Japan as it is in West, the only difference being it's a completely secular holiday as opposed to the mostly-secular affair it's become over here. That's why you'll see a bunch of animes with "Christmas Specials", for example...
And, um, Sonic could really pull off a Smash Bros. equivilant, as it would just takes guys from the Sonic games, whereas Smash Bros. was from the entire Nintendo franchise. I dunno what a Sega-equivilant would be like... I mean, Sonic's pretty much the only really big name they've got. Who else, Ecco the Dolphin? |
