Yeah, I liked Vaan, Penelo and Balthier so at the beginning I was thinking 'this is going to be good' but then Vaan vanished into the background to be replaced with the moaning angst of Asche. And the scenes he was in were confusing like they just crowbarred them in.
[spoiler:93186e7f24]Like when he and Asche were the only ones to see that ghost and he shared a long emotional pause with her so I'm thinking 'is this supposed to be a developing romance as that's what long awkard pauses between 2 characters of opposite sex in RPGs usually mean or am I reading too much into it. Wah, I have no idea what's going on.'[/spoiler:93186e7f24]
But then no matter how good the character design, voice actors and script are if you have no idea what's going on in the story it doesn't really help.

And about the script-they did that Medieval English auto-lengthening thing. So "Let's go" becomes "Princess, we must ready ourselves to move with all due haste. There is not a moment to loose."

Yeah, this is annoying and happens in a lot of games. I'd prefer it if there was only minimal party members (like Dark Cloud 2) rather than forget about them.

All in all it'll probably never be my favourite FF game, but I would like to play it one day, if only because penelo, ashe and fran are three of the hottest hoes in the FF universe.

Shocked What would Tifa say?

Also, hottest probably = better rendered.

All I've played at all recently is Rock Band, seeing as we've now got a whole band together, and there's a tournament in Leeds tomorrow. Also, the downloadable Metallica songs make me cry.

I'm finally on the last episode in Viewtiful Joe. It wasn't even Fire Leo that aggravated me (easiest attack pattern in the whole game), but just the boss rush.

Can't believe I didn't see it coming. Sheesh. Thank god the later levels in this game allow you to resume boss stages after game overing.

Tales of Symphonia. One friend says it's INCREDIBLE. c0j1r0 says it's the best game of all time.

I'm, uh... not seein' it so far.

I mean, it's okay, yeah. It's not like I'm not enjoying it somewhat. But I'm certainly not telling everyone else that they MUST play it and that they should borrow it right away. Maybe I just need to get further into it, but... an RPG shouldn't take this long to pick up.

Someone describes Tales of Symphonia as the best game of all time?

I enjoyed it for its combat system, because it was a unique and refreshing change from what RPGs usually do, and having multiplayer was really fun.... but the story was more generic than a balck man having the sax.

Just finished Mario Galaxy (not with all the stars though, just the main game/story), and although I found it to be really, really good fun to play, great music, great controls, graphics, level design...is it just me or it was very easy?

[spoiler:9198c12b0c]The final battle with Bowser disappointed me so much. What the hell was that? It was hardly more difficult than the first time you fight him...[/spoiler:9198c12b0c]

But yeah, overwall a great game, and I'm now going to try and get all the stars. At least it's fantastic in every other aspect, but the difficulty curve was too subtle...

Oh well, what game should I get next? Razz
I was thinking Zelda, obviously, but No More Heroes looks greet too.

Some of the extra stars will probably have you pulling your hair out - but yeah, even that wasn't as hard as it could've been. I think they did that to appeal to youngins/casuals. Meh.

Recently been playing though Zelda: Majora's Mask again from ground up. Since it's on an emulator (don't worry, this time I own the game Razz), I was able to take videos of some of the interesting-yet-weird glitches that I found. If I find enough, I'll probably make a video compilation of YouTube about it.

YAY MAJORA'S MASK *PANTS CRAP*

See, I like me some Majora's Mask. A lot. I play it quite often. I like glitches, too. Nothing quite like using an emulator to enable moon jump and jump over the enter-the-next-area detectors. Very Happy

I beat Viewtiful Joe on Adults mode, yay-a.

Also I just recently got the PS2 version of Sonic Heroes for lack of a Gamecube, and I seem to be stuck on Rail Canyon with Team Sonic. Meh!

I've been playing lots and lots of Metal Gear Solid lately. To the point that I instinctively hold the R1 button of the PS2 controller while wanting to get a closer look at something in any other game. I played through MGS2: Substance again two weeks ago, and I've been working my way through the VR Missions in that. Really good fun, but those First Person missions are a crime.

I also played through MGS3: Snake Eater for my first time last week. I really enjoyed it, but I can't figure out whether or not it's a better game than the second one. It definitely has much more depth to it, especially with the camouflage aspect... and the enemies' AI is much, much sharper than before. But I'm not sure if that's a good thing. There were a set of rules you could carefully but easily follow in MGS2 that allowed you to mess around with the guards and poke so much fun at them while still managing not to be detected by them. It made it feel that much, er, game-ier than Snake Eater, if I'm making sense. But in this game I felt terrified of being discovered any time I was near a guard. I suppose it really does make you feel like a Naked Snake. Razz

Still, I found it really hard to get used to, and didn't enjoy the opening sections as much as with Substance just from struggling with the controls. It's probably just me, though, and I'll probably love it once I play through it again now that I'm more used to the controls. I think the new CQC commands are probably the secret to mastering the game... it's just unsettling to have a game that seems so similar but behaves and must be approached so differently. Especially when, once you set the guards into alert mode, the combat is kind of clunky in comparison with how well everything else is designed.

Still, it's great fun. Great plot, too, and the setting is brilliant in every way. I loved how much more human Naked Snake is, too... and there are so many little touches (the hidden [spoiler:d28ddb34a4]vampire mini-game[/spoiler:d28ddb34a4], meeting Granin, the Ape Escape game, Para-Medic's convos and whimsical groovy Ocelot come to mind) that it feels every bit as polished as the rest of the games. The one thing that grated in terms of the game's production was the overall theme of sacrifice, humility and martyrdom juxtaposed with the horrendously cheesy Bond overtones. But I suppose that's just part of Kojima's weird humour. And damn it, it's silly, but that theme song is catchy!

Oh, and after playing that Ape Escape minigame, it inspired me to play Ape Escape 3. Which is sickeningly cute, but really good fun.

MGS3 is my favorite of the series (haven't gotten around to stealing someone's PS3 for the newest one though), and that's even including the fact that I played the normal version with the obnoxious camera set-up.

EDIT: Playing through FFT. It's not as difficult as I remember.

Yes. Yes it will.

At least so I fear. I would expect us to be unable to play anyone over in Europe. :/ I know a guy in Mexico who's extremely laggy. It might be his connection, too, but...

I started playing my friend's copy of DDR Universe on the 360 the other night. A decision I regret greatly because it is a steaming turd of a game.

Let me give you an example. The US and European versions have the same set of achievements, including ones for beating 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and finally all the songs. But the US version has 73 songs, whereas the European one has 60, so it's actually impossible to get all the achievements out of it. Unless of course you download some extra songs off the Marketplace by giving Konami some more money! Songs which are already on the disc which you have to pay for for the privelige of accessing them - the actual files you download are about 10kb.

Then there's Quest Mode. Oh, where do I start? You get a challenge on each song, which will often be to hit a certain number of jumps or freezes. Bearing in mind the fact that this is just impossible on some songs (because they don't have enough jumps or freezes) and if you finish the song not having met the quota the game will pick a random song for you to do next which is likely to be equally impossible to beat the challenge on, and so on until infinity, you simply go to the options menu before the song starts, and turn on the mod for either all jumps or all freezes, meet the quota in about 10 seconds then quit the song. You win! I could go on.

Another quality DDR game from Konami. Thanks.

Good game then Wormy?

Anyway, recent games for me... managed to finish Magical Starsign yesterday after about six weeks slogging through it. It's a solid enough game but sadly it gets boring quite quickly. It's one of those games that you might only pick up and play for 15 minutes at a time.

On finishing that I've also started to play through Children of Mana. Another nice little game, but I've not played it through all that much and I fear it'll end up pretty much the same. Story's got a very tiny little unexpected twist, but I expect that'll be ironed out due to evil forces o noes.

Trying to blitz through as many games in my barely played or untouched archive as possible since Smash Bros is finally released here on Friday, so that'll eat up my life come Friday morning. Razz

Oh, on the subject of FF XII, if I hear Ashe gasp like she's snapping out of a coma one more time I will find a way to get my Espers to break her larynx.

>Sad I hate that game. One of the only games I've ever purchased that made me say "actually, you know what? This game sucks." It's basically MASHMASHMASHMASHMASHMASHMASH the A button, break after the fourth zone in the level, save, KEEPONMASHING the A button, usually for 16 zones later on. Absolutely terribly repetitive and I hate it. I'm on the last level but I'm busy trying to get everything necessary for 100% completion because I don't want to have to play through it a second time for it.

Yeah, that's the main problem I have with the Mana games, there never seems to be that much in the way of tactics for enemies and bosses in the games. From what I remember of it Sword of Mana wasn't as repetitive and Evermore, while not technically a Mana game, at least had a tactic with the big bug bosses rather than repeatedly swing your sword over and over (although that's all it became once you got into his chest). They always seem to be sticking Zelda into a Final Fantasy Lite and then stripping it of whatever makes it either. I have Heroes of Mana on the shelf at the moment as well, and I'm just hoping it's not like a Final Fantasy Tactics Lite with the Tactics surgically removed.

I still enjoy the games mind. They could just easily be better.

Precisely. Heck, the only reason I still play Sword of Mana is because there's so bloody much to do it's insane. Lots to collect and so many screens of information to complete. Makes a completionist like me crap my pants.
