Some of you might remember my story about my grandma being ill? And the hospital messing up numerous times resulting in her having one leg and C Dificil?
Well now she has MRSA as well.

Hug for you (and your grandma, but do you mind if this is a kind of hug 'gesture' because I don't want to catch MRSA sorry sorry sorry). |

Does she have MSRA as a result of the hospital's negligence? If so, she should really....
...blech, I don't even know. On the one hand I'd like to see your grandmother sue them and get compensation for what she's lost and what she's had to go through. On the other hand, they're still a hospital, with the sole purpose of taking care of people, and to take money from their coffers (even if it's deserved) seems like an empty 'victory'.
I wish we could designate rich people who were also kind of jerks as "people who will be sued". Someone like Kobe Bryant, who has tons of money and spends it raping girls he meets at hotels.
But yeah, here's to hoping your grandma pulls through.
Also, kaos, how's this newest development affecting your kemo? I know my aunt had to stop recently cause she got an infection, which totally messed up her next few months cause we'd planned our schedules around the kemo, so things like weddings and family vacations were all when she'd be feeling the best she'd get for that time-frame - now it all got juked over about a week, so she will be feeling like absolute shi'ite during those times. Hope you don't get your sched. jarred the same way.
Also, how're ya gonna do school? _________________ [quote="Someone's sig on the AoC forums"]THis game really is more geared towards the adult then, teenbeat wow. This mmo makes u think, somthing a teenager hates to do. -Skopas, eloquently discussing how grown up AoC is.

Yes, they do. 'Sjust in this country, you don't sue doctors. The NHS even have a proportion of their budget going towards suing.
Most doctors have their own Unions, where if you get sued or something, because someone has sued a particular Department, the Union will help them out. I know, because I know doctors! _________________ _________________

Well, we are doing something to get compensation. The cut that she got on her leg shouldn't have got infected when she was in hospital (they're meant to prevent things like that), she shouldn't have needed her leg amputated, she shouldn't have got a urinary infection there (which is how she got C. Dificil - it's caused by antibiotics), and she shouldn't have got MRSA. We just want compensation for what she'll need if (it's not so much a question of 'when' anymore) she makes it out of hospital.
The reason she lost her leg was because they put a kind of sleeve thing (i'm not sure what to call it) onto her leg after she had plastic surgery (to heal the cut that she got when she fell out of bed in hospital). They didn't consult with the circulatory department before putting it on, so it cut off the already weak blood flow to that leg.
The MRSA and C. Dificil aren't the hospital's fault as much, from what I can see. They are due to the hospital, but it's a national problem and there isn't any more that the staff or the hospital can really do about it. The C. Dificil came from them trying to help the urinary infection, but it's become a vicious cycle. She gets a urinary infection, they give her antibiotics, she gets C. Dificil, they stop the antibiotics, she gets the urinary infection again. They want to move her to another hospital, but they can't until this cycle stops, which it doesn't show any signs of doing.
Oh, and they haven't fixed the thing she went in for yet either. She went in with a bowel infection and now she has one leg, MRSA, alternating C dificil and urinary infection, and the bowel problem.
I personally don't support suing places like hospitals; it seems a bit unfair as we might be taking money that could go to stopping something like this happening to another family. When I hear stories of people suing places like this, I'm usually not in support unless it's a case where compensation is genuinely needed. But as far as I can see, this is a genuine case of malpractice.
Basically, there are a few possible outcomes on the financial side;
- We don't get compensation, she gets out of hospital: She has to sell most of her belongings and she either moves into a smaller house with very little money to support her living with one leg, or we pay for her to move into a nursing home, if we can afford it.
- We get compensation, she gets out of hospital: The money goes towards helping her live with one leg
- We don't get compensation, she doesn't get out of hospital: Nothing happens.
- We get compensation, she doesn't get out of hospital: This is where I have a moral issue. I would feel guilty if we kept the money - it would have come from the taxpayer originally, and would have been taken from a hospital. Admittedly it's cost us a lot travelling 2 hours there and back each week, but I still don't feel it would be right to keep it. I'd support giving it to stop this happening to other families but unfortunately it's not me who gets to decide.
At least she was feeling alright when we went in today to celebrate her birthday. Unfortunately we got a call to say she's gone downhill again just now.
Not the best situation. :/ _________________ :3 |

Not that I support law-suits or anything, but I think you should sue them, the NHS have a cut of the budget for it, and governmental help won't get her very far. Yes, your suing of the hospital won't get rid of the fact that they have to have this cut of their budget, but there are still right-winged imbeciles who will want £1,000,000 compensation for having difficulty using the faucets in a hospital toilet. All-in-all, your suing (or not suing) won't affect their regular sue rate they get a year.
--
I suggest you look into this cut-of-the-budget thing, as I say, I did hear it off a doctor, but the doctor's communication skills in English may not be up to the standard that I suspected. _________________ _________________

Wow. That- that's absolutely unbelievable. I mean, I've had issues with doctors before, but never anything like that. Any chance you could get compensation from the doctor(s) responsible instead of the hospital? That way you're not feeling guilty for taking hospital money, and those doctors get what's coming to them. Maybe that's just my tired, sick, cynical self speaking though.
Regardless, though, you'll all definitely be in my prayers, and I hope that whatever ends up happening is for the best.

Nah. He said "okay, well since you're doing this we'll just not do chemo this week because that probably wouldn't be the BEST idea", and fortunately not doing chemo for one week is effectively skipping it - no tacking on an extra week or anything. So 52 weeks just became 51. >:D |

I wasted the weekend at an awful wedding/family reunion in Cornwall. I can't be bothered to go through everything in detai, but broadly:
- Bad choice of bed-and-breakfast
- Loads of waiting for other people to do something
- Sickly-sugary choice of hymns
- Picking up a glass of orange juice and taking a big swig, and then finding out it's actually an unpleasant vodka-y punch thing
- Worst best man's speech ever
- Bad choice of disco songs (I got RickRoll'd at a wedding reception)
- Not much choice of buffet food
- Hearing an unpleasant fact about the buffet food the night after the reception
- Dad saying "we'll leave in a minute" then loading his plate with buffet food
- Waiting till past midnight for a taxi which was thirty minutes late
- Ordering waffles for breakfast and then finding out the bed-and-breakfast has run out of syrup
- The seagulls
- Great-aunt and uncle suddenly acquiring loud boisterous dogs on the last day (I have a phobia of dogs, especially loud boisterous dogs, and as such don't like to spend hours in their presence)
To be fair the weekend had its good points and I can get some good anecdotes out of it. But it was hellish at the time. I can elaborate if you're interested.
I don't think I'll manage to top Lynkstar's post, though. That's just horrible. |

Arghh yes. I hate loud dogs. If a dog barks at me or jumps at me.. abruio;iof. Hate it.
My parents went to visit my grandma again today. She was absolutely in a world of her own. She was talking to herself the whole 2 hours and made no sense whatsoever. She didn't acknowledge my parents being in the room at all, even if they were talking to her. This basically means she's got the urinary infection again; it makes her go a bit delirious, but today was way worse than it's ever been before.
My parents couldn't even ask how she was doing, because the nurse who said she'd see them was too busy. Doesn't seem as though she has long left though. _________________ :3 |

Well, it was definitely strong alcohol, orange and probably something else. I've never liked the taste of alcohol, to be honest. Also it had the element of surprise (you don't expect people to try to get you pissfaced at 2pm).
Lynkstar, you should definitely seek compensation now. If your grandma doesn't make it out of hospital and you feel guilty about keeping the money, you could donate it to a charity or research fund combating MRSA or similar diseases.
EDIT: That sounds a bit arrogant now that I look at it. This is just my opinion, of course - do what you want. |

Did you not find it funny? That's why you go to the buffet early.

Urinal sandwiches though.

But those dogs were ADORABLE!! They only barked because they thought the door was for them. They shut up after that. It was so sweet when one got stuck in the cardboard box.
Also, sorry to hear about your grandma, Lynkstar. _________________

Wow, you don't really have very good clothes/face coordination.
I'm a tad buggered that my parents are making me study for these two tests I have to take in the summer. The reason I'm mad is because the grades won't count for anything, since my teachers said that this late in the summer it was too late to change the past year's grade anyway. Plus their state tests, which means that not only are they easy, but all I have to do to pass is get above a 65, which is by no means hard or challenging or worthy of a week's worth of time spent studying. _________________ IM THE DUDE PLAYIN THE DUDE DISGUISED AS ANOTHER DUDE

I hate tantrums, especially about minor things. Such as the ones my little brother throws! And I mean throws.
Playing Guitar Hero and is hitting the wrong buttons (yellow and red are not blue!). After yelling "WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS THING" I said "You're just hitting the wrong buttons".
"NO I AM NOT THIS GUITAR IS STUPID"
"Dude. I'm watching you. You're hitting the wrong buttons."
"NO THIS GUITAR IS BROKEN HAYAAAAAA" and proceeds to throw the guitar at the ground. The good guitar, too! I then tell him that he's not going to play anymore if he can't treat the stuff properly, and so he runs out yelling "YOU'RE SO MEAN!!!!!"
