WOW @ That Falcon Punch video. I didn't know he had an anime. I also thought they made up all of his moves from Smash out of thin air. My respect for C Falc has gone up by 6000. He is now Revered with Yoshgunn. _________________ IM THE DUDE PLAYIN THE DUDE DISGUISED AS ANOTHER DUDE

Dude, JK, that is amazing. To quote one of the comments for that video, "galaxy killing falcon panch" (sic) for the win.
EDIT: Hrm, perhaps it wasn't a typo; I found the following on UrbanDictionary.
| Quote: | panch
A punch with a twist of confidence and smug revelry.
Alternatives include paaanch or paaaaaaaaaaaanch depending of the level of accentuation required.
"This monkey was jiving me so I fixed his wagon with a panch"
"Man, I'm so sorry for denting your schvinkenvankan." "Paaaaaaanch!" |

Wow I had no idea that the good ol' Captian had his own show. I thought that SSB just made-up everything about him. But I guess I was wrong.
Cool.

Erm, actually, in case I hadn't mentioned it yet (which is probable but I want to cover all my bases), I really hope they get rid of all the clones. That was one of my big bugbears with Melee - about half the characters seemed to be just a lazily produced copy of someone else with slightly different moves. I don't care that you can play as Ganondorf if he's just the same as Captain Falcon except slightly slower and stronger. I'm sure someone (if not me) has already made this point, but it was such an atrocious shortcoming that it deserves to be emphasised as much as possible.
no clones plz _________________ Delivering very monthly quotes for over six freaking years, it's Upsi's Quote of the Month:

Anyway the reason there were so many clones is because Sakurai was rushed to finish Smash Brothers but still wanted more characters and stuff. He had so much to add but not enough time to make the GameCube's release, that the easy way out was clonez. I'm pretty sure Pit was supposed to be in SSBM, but they didn't have time. Check Pit's trophy, the last line is: "Will Pit ever fight again?" a clear indication that next Smash Bros their gonna put him in, which is a well known fact now. So, yeah, no one likes clones, they just live with em and get used to it. But don't hold it against the makers and Smash, and most importantly don't worry. There won't be no clones in Brawl. _________________ IM THE DUDE PLAYIN THE DUDE DISGUISED AS ANOTHER DUDE

They've just revealed Link's specials. They're really not much different from before; the only difference is the regular boomerang has been replaced by the Gale Boomerang, which pulls the opponent towards Link on the way back. Also, his grab is now the Clawshot, which latches on the nearest ledge if Link's falling for orshum recoveries in the same way that Zero Suit Samus' plasma whip does.

It actually seems like Link got a lot of nice buffs. The description of the Hero's Bow was "it's fast", and that makes sense - Link's Bow attack in Melee was notably weak.. I mean, compare it to Fox or Falco's lazer. How's that fair? XP It seems like he gave it a much needed buff as far as how long it'll take to charge it up. For all we know even shooting it dry will send it farther than before, now.
Being able to charge his Up-B for, presumably, stronger effects, is also gonna be awesome. Not only will it be nice for damage, but it probably means if you have it charged when you get knocked off, you can get a massive boost from using it as a recovery. I wonder if this means Link's bomb recovery abilities will be nerfed to compensate, tho. = O
The boomerang and hookshot changes are icing on the cake - it seems like now, Link really is the character they meant him to be. Since the 64, they've always seemed to angle him as "the character with tricks up his sleeve". In Melee, though, a bow that was flacid at best in any 1 v 1 encounter didn't really compliment this aspect of his character. With a faster bow, some intense recovery options (bombs, claw, ~and~ a charged Up-B? heck yeah, boiz!), and a boomerang that screws with your opponents? This is fairly nasty.
I also wonder if it's an omen of what's to come. Link was not one of the strongest characters in Melee, and while he sure wasn't the worst, some buffs couldn't hurt. It seems like the devs were aware of this and made some nice changes to help him out. Very, very cool. _________________ [quote="Someone's sig on the AoC forums"]THis game really is more geared towards the adult then, teenbeat wow. All of this sounds cool, but I don't think his charged Up and B will be how you think, able to be stored after charging for later use, like DK and Samus. It's just me, but I think as soon as it's done charging you use it on the spot. <.< just guessin, y'know y'know? _________________ IM THE DUDE PLAYIN THE DUDE DISGUISED AS ANOTHER DUDE

IMO it'd be fine if it was a "held" move, as long as it's not too powerful. Link needs a boost from his performance in Melee. Then again, it shouldn't be as powerful as DK or Samus's moves (then again, Samus's charge shot was much weaker in Melee than in original).
Also, <3 Gale Boomerang. Throw it, pull them towards you, smash attack, repeat? _________________ This post has been brought to you by

While it'd make sense lore-wise to restrict Link to only charging up his sword then unleashing it right there/walking slowly, for character balance that's nooo good, and as we know they'll happily break the lore for balance. (Like Link using boomerangs, even when young link was added to Melee, and like Pichu being able to take on Mewtwo).
So yeah, my guess is you'll charge it... I wonder if we'll see this with any other moves? Also, is link the first in-depth character moveset we've gotten, that contains 'em all? If so, I wonder what other changes they made to other characters, = O. _________________ [quote="Someone's sig on the AoC forums"]THis game really is more geared towards the adult then, teenbeat wow. That was my first thought at well, but then I re-read the sentence:
"...when it comes back, it also lightly pulls the foe’s body."
Honestly, that's a bizarre word choice, so it's hard to figure out exactly what Sakurai means. But I'm interpreting it to mean that the enemy doesn't get pulled all the way to Link, only a small amount.
(Besides, pulling the enemy all the way to Link is already in the Clawshot's job description. ) _________________ "" |

That would make since. Because if you could repeat it like that, then it could get cheap.
And for the spin-attack, I was thinking it meant somthing like how you can charge your smash attacks in Melee. But, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. _________________ http://gadgettr.deviantart.com/ |

Well, I was thinking:
You stand close to the foe, throw the boomerang, he's drawn within your smash attack range. You hit him. If he has very low damage (and/or is very heavy) he doesn't fly far allowing you to repeat the process a couple more times. If he has almost any amount of substantial damage though, he should fly too far away for the boomerang to be able to pull the enemy back within smash attack range.
Also, I hope the clawshot is longer than the hookshot. Not much longer, of course, but long enough to not be a steaming pile of useless. _________________ This post has been brought to you by

As long as it's fast, I'm fine. The lag on the hookshot made it so agonizing to watch as you reached it out and someone effortlessly lept over your head and crunched you into dust. _________________ [quote="Someone's sig on the AoC forums"]THis game really is more geared towards the adult then, teenbeat wow. Well they seem to be boasting a "running while shooting" motif in smash. A running-clawshot would balance the lag on him retracting the hookshot, I guess. Plus it wouldn't matter how long it was cause you could run closer if you needed to. _________________ IM THE DUDE PLAYIN THE DUDE DISGUISED AS ANOTHER DUDE

Actually, if Link could move at normal speed while charging his arrows, that alone would balance 'em. Dunno that they'll do it that way, though, but then again, the arrows were just added in Melee, so it's not like they're some staple of the game.
But woah, check out the freakin' video on the website. O_o Here, go check it real fast, and then come back to the thread. I won't spoilars anything till ya do.

Man, Petey Pirahna, wtf? He looks pretty badass though, I wonder if he's a playable guy now, or if he's like master hand or something? I guess the Mario games needed more reps as it was. Still, he seems like a raging beast more than a character you could play as.

Hawt, hawt stuff. I wasn't expecting another Subspace update until Friday at the very least. (That's when the other two occurred, but I guess that doesn't mean anything anymore. )
My completely unorganized and unrelated remarks:
- I still can't help but wonder why on earth the Ancient Minister seems to have taken up residence in Meta Knight's personal ship.
- Woah @ Petey. I don't think he ever roared like that in Mario Sunshine. I seem to recall him making these strange-arse noises and sounding incredibly weaksauce.
- LOL @ the ROBs. Now that's goin' oldskool.
- WANT.
- EDIT UNO: It occurs to me that none of the characters has uttered a single word, yet. (Yes, I realize it would be in Japanese at this point.) Mario has made his wacky little noises and Peach has screamed, but both Zelda and Kirby -- and, of course, the Minister -- have remained totally silent. Is anybody going to talk in adventure mode?
- EDIT DOS: Where did that cannonball that pwned Mario come from, anyway? Last I checked, none of Petey's orifices had the capability to fire huge cannonballs. (It has been a while, though.)

I don't think you would play as petey because, like you said, he's probably like Master Hand or somthing. It seems this video picked up where the other one left off (obviesly). Mario gets pwned by a cannon ball, Peach and Zelda get locked up in cages, so I guess that means you would start playing as Kirby right about there and try to stop Petey before the time runs out. Wicked .
Edit--
After reading that wiki article fruity, I've come to think about somthing. Was Rob in Starfox one of those (or atleast based off of one) R.O.B.s? _________________ http://gadgettr.deviantart.com/ |

I quote the Cameos section of that very article:
"ROB 64 of Star Fox 64 is named after R.O.B. [...] His name was shortened to ROB in later Star Fox games."
There's your answer.
As you can see, though, they don't have much in common appearance-wise. Apart from, y'know, being legless, pseudo-humanoid robots.

Y'know, one day Nintendo will get over their irritating Petey Piranha fetish...
Anyways, this new Adventure mode's getting to be fairly interesting. We've already got Petey as what I assume will be a boss character, evil ROBs, the Ninty version of Heartless and Meta Knight confusing us all by being evil again (one day he'll make his mind up who's side he's on, but until then...)
Actually, since we've got a fair few things going on already, here's something to mull over until the next Subspace update: what do you want to see cropping up in this new-fangled epic adventure? Personally I'd love to end up fighting a proper Ganon at some point, or at least one of the better Zelda bosses. Really it'd be nice fighting some sort of cult-favourite bosses from whatever games, although I'm half-expecting a bit more Kirby stuff to come in, like Dyna Blade or an assault on the Halberd something like that...
Oh, since I've led myself to the Halberd, the most likely source for that cannonball would be the Twin Cannon on the front of the Halberd, but since it's pointing the other way it's probably just some secondary cannon on it. (Li'l edit: Given the stupid amount on cannons on the Halberd I reckon that's a safe assumption )
...
Wait, when are they going to announce the Mario Kart stage?
