No, wait, actually, screw Lanky. I want Funky more.
Chaz, the orange bomb would be pretty wicked, but I have to wonder if they already have enough explosive items. The Bob-omb, the proximity mine, the pokeball's Electrode (even if it gets replaced, I wouldn't be surprised to see another Pokemon with Selfdestruct take its place), and the new Gooey Bomb, in addition to the randomly exploding crates, capsules, and barrels. Too many more and this game might as well be produced by Michael Bay! *joke sting*
You're right that they really do need some item representation from the DK series, though.
Personally, I want to see the Golden Banana as an item. When you touch it, the entire screen freezes for three seconds, you hear a bongo beat in the background, and DK -- perhaps only if he's actually onscreen -- exclaims "OHHHHH BANANA!" (Bad idea) _________________ ""

I want... I want that really old monkey kong dude. Cranky? Or maybe that surfer kong dude.
I second any idea that proposes that any character at any time needs to scream "OHHHHH BANANA!" |

Well damn. There goes my hope for seeing Dixie in this game. But still. I will own you all with this guy. Diddy + Metaknight + original Wario is my dream team. Too bad they changed Wario too badly.
I want to see screenshots of the popguns, though.
And suddenly I wonder... how much of this will turn out to be true? _________________ This post has been brought to you by

Lolmegaman. And Zero!!11 I wish for them to be true very much.
DUDE. You know who would be awesome? Pheonix Wright. He'd only have one move, foward B, and he'd point and go "Objection!" and a giant laser would erupt from his finger and instanly K.O. anyone who touched it. And his Final Smash would summon that giant demonic Judge from the second game opening and he'd be all "EXCUSE ME WTF R U DOIN" and he'd whack everyone with his Gavel o' Hurt. |

I vote Megaman X and Zero to be in Brawl too! <3
And if kid-Link makes a return, then I hope his Final Smash is where he pulls out the Fierce Diety Mask and turns into Fierce Diety Link! THAT would be awsome. _________________ http://gadgettr.deviantart.com/ |

That Ridley hat ftw (actually I have an old doodle of Kirby in a Ridley hat somewhere...). Also that one of Kirby in Snake guise makes him look like a Dreamland bum.
EDIT: Actually, since Paper Mazza's mentioned, those badges you got would be neat little items. Like the one that stops you getting burn'd would trump Fire Flowers and make Bowser weep, that sort of thing. |

Oh hey, that's a cool idea. Imagine getting something like a spark badge? I guess it'd have to go away after like 20 seconds or something, otherwise certain characters just couldn't kill you. XP
Today's updates were pretty cool. When I saw music I was like "meh", but then I read this line...
' Then there’s this arrangement. As I sit and enjoy this song, it reminds me of one phrase in particular...
"Heroes always arrive late." '
O_o. Lots of people on the smash boards are clamoring for an AC character - could this be a hint? I don't wanna overanalyze it but dayumns.
Also, Yoshi's final smash is the coolest one that exists so far. I was never much of an Animal Crossing fan, so I kind of hope that there won't be one in there, but I guess that other people would like there to be, so whatever.
Yoshi's Final smash is pretty neat! It's about time we saw Yoshi with his signature wings in Smash Bros. _________________ http://gadgettr.deviantart.com/ |

I used to not really care about an AC rep, but reading those boards has made me want one more and more. There's also a lot of evidence for one, I mean...
- An Animal Crossing Stage (smashtown)
- An Animal Crossing Item (pitfall)
- Two trophies in Melee (K.K. Slider and Resetti)
- Two games on the market right now, and a third one slated to come out on the Wii, all of which have had tons of success and popularity.
- It's own movie (that was only in Japan).
- A massive fanbase that goes from Japan to Europe to North America.
AC meets all the standard requirements of a representative. The only reason they wouldn't get one is cause it's not a fighting game. However, Nook did used to be in a fight club....
Those special moves for Yoshi were in strikers, too. I wonder if they're trying to integrate that as his new thing? If the next Yoshi game has him popping on wings and blasting fireballs, it could be pretty sick. _________________ [quote="Someone's sig on the AoC forums"]THis game really is more geared towards the adult then, teenbeat wow. The AC music is cute and nubby : D and if KK Slider wasn't in the background, I'd say HE was a character. (weve had a lot of sword characters but not guitar ones lol) and if Kirby sucked up KK Slider he could have the "microphone" B that was so overpowered.
As for Yoshis Final Smash as I Yoshi fan, first of all I was like WHAT IN THE NAME OF oohhhhh.... See it took me a while to put it all together. Green yoshi never had any powers but blue had wings and red spit fire. And the flying thing would be awesome for any char but for Yoshi its even better considering his many jump handicaps. So, YAYYYY YOSHI!!!!! _________________ IM THE DUDE PLAYIN THE DUDE DISGUISED AS ANOTHER DUDE

*headbangs along*
Also... w00t w00t @ Yoshi's kickarse Final Smash! I'm with Yoshgunn; I love how they mashed a few of his old, long-forgotten powers together like that.
...I'm not sure what Sakurai is talking about when he says "some call him a dragon", though...

My apologies for the double post, but this is completely unrelated, and I didn't feel like cramming this much junk into a second "EDIT".
I was doing some research earlier and -- having, as usual, plenty of spare time at work -- decided to put a bunch of known info together into one place for easy comparison.
I. Characters
SSB had 12 characters -- of which 8 were default and 4 were unlockable.
SSBM had 25 characters -- of which 14 were default and 11 were unlockable.
So far, SSBB has 19 announced characters -- of which, presumably, 17 are default and 2 are unlockable (Meta Knight and Snake, who have conspicuously disappeared from the "Characters" section of the official website).
Melee added 13 characters to the original roster, more than doubling the list of available fighters. Can we expect the finished product of Brawl to have even more characters than Melee did? It seems highly likely. On the one hand, quality is preferable to quantity -- but on the other hand, one could argue that Sakurai's team has had plenty of time for both.
A. Characters we've officially had announced on the website, in chronological order:
1. Mario
2. Link
3. Pit
4. Kirby
5. Pikachu
6. Fox
7. Samus
8. Wario
9. Zelda
10. Bowser
11. Donkey Kong
12. Zero Suit Samus
13. Yoshi
14. Ike
15. Pokemon Trainer
16. Peach
17. Diddy Kong
B. Characters we've seen in gameplay footage/screenshots:
18. Meta Knight
19. Snake
...And now we enter pseudo-speculation mode. It is very interesting to note that out of the 12 characters in the original SSB, all eight of the default fighters have already been announced for SSBB, whereas none of the four unlockable fighters have yet to be even mentioned on the website. Coincidence? Perhaps not...
C. Characters whose inclusion we can assume from items:
20. Captain Falcon (assist trophy: Samurai Goroh)
21. Ness (item: Franklin Badge)
D. Characters whose inclusion we can guess due to being present in BOTH past games:
22. Luigi
23. Jigglypuff??? (Before, this seemed like a no-brainer, but with the recent introduction of the Pokemon Trainer, who knows?)
In the end, only time will tell...
II. Stages
SSB had 9 stages -- of which 8 were default and only 1 was unlockable.
SSBM had 29 stages -- of which 18 were default and 11 were unlockable.
So far, SSBB has 9 announced stages, all of which are most likely default. To my knowledge, we haven't seen any additional stages in screenshots or videos that aren't currently in the list on the official website.
Even more impressive than what SSBM did to SSB's character roster is what it did to the stage selection screen. Melee more than tripled the number of stages in the game. One would hope that we can look forward to just as much variety in Brawl's array of levels, but with only nine announced so far, that's a lot of ground to cover. Then again, we've still got over three months until release. _________________ "" |

That's some nice info doc. (and don't worry, we forgive you for the double post lol)
From what I know, SSBM had as many stages as it did characters (I know this because in All-Star mode, depending on the character you were fighting, you would go to a different level than if you were to fight another character), and it also had that many items (I know this because the "Random Stages" list was just as big as the Item list).
So I hope that we can expect the same for Brawl. I'm guessing that about 1/3 (maby more) or the characters will be unlockable.
I just thought I'd share that. _________________ http://gadgettr.deviantart.com/ |

Mm, there's a couple stages that have been shown in vids or pics but not on the site. A lot of pictures have had what's pretty clearly pokemon stadium in the background, with the characteristic green floor and crowds in the background. There was also a gameplay video at some Japanese video game exhibition that showed a bunch of new levels, most of which have been announced already. However, there were two that haven't been - one was a Mario Kart level, and it looked like you just fought on the track as shy guy's on karts drove by. The other looked like it was from Metal Gear Solid, but you couldn't see much cause it was just snake crawling around under a platform.
So, + 3 to the total levels, y0. _________________ [quote="Someone's sig on the AoC forums"]THis game really is more geared towards the adult then, teenbeat wow. This mmo makes u think, somthing a teenager hates to do. -Skopas, eloquently discussing how grown up AoC is.

XD It was Luigi's mushroom kingdom thing. There ya go.
So has there ever been a level in Melee that wasn't based off of a character in the game? If so, and they follow this trend, there should be an AC character. But who is it?
Theres no main character except you, and with all the different things you were wearing and.. heads.. you could have.... how would they know which one to do.
I mean for your attacks you could catch people in nets and fishing hooks... and violently kill them with shovels and axes, but geez that doesnt fit AC at all... _________________ IM THE DUDE PLAYIN THE DUDE DISGUISED AS ANOTHER DUDE

| Goshyunn wrote: | | So has there ever been a level in Melee that wasn't based off of a character in the game? |
If you're only talking about playable characters, then yes, there have been a couple:
- Battlefield
- Final Destination
Of course, if you're counting NPCs as well, then you could call Battlefield the home of the Fighting Polygons/Wireframes, and you could call Final Destination the home of the Brothers Hand. So there ya go.
Additionally, both of those stages I mentioned are unique in that they aren't based on any preexisting game franchise. There has never been a franchise-specific stage (such as the new AC one) that didn't have at least one character from the same series of games to go along with it. _________________ "" |

Y'know, maybe this is just playing devil's advocate, but I'm not sure how you can consider Zero Suit Samus a full character any more than you'd consider Sheik a separate character. Samus and her Zero Suit counterpart are just two parts of the same whole ("when she destroys her power suit, she's just Zero Suit Samus" - we even see this happen in Samus's final smash). That said, given that you won't be able to select ZSS from the character select screen (and indeed, not be able to play with her at all until you use Samus's final smash, unless they add an additional option ala SSBM's "start as Shiek"), I don't consider ZSS a full character - rather, just a second identity to Samus as Sheik was a second identity to Zelda.
What interests me is why they haven't made a "sub-characters" section for just this purpose. Hmm. _________________ This post has been brought to you by

Yeah, that's true enough. I considered that as I was putting the list together, but they do have separate pages on the website, so I just went with that. *shrugs*
I was pondering a particular aspect of the Zero Suit thing earlier today, actually. Since becoming ZSS is Samus' final smash move, what will happen when ZSS picks up another Smash Ball? Universe implosion? Division by zero? Seems to me that because of this mechanic, she'll have to have two completely separate final smashes. That's something which I doubt (it's possible, but I doubt) even Zelda/Sheik will boast.
Additionally, Lucca just asked me a great question: "How does she get her suit back?" We actually haven't been told the answer to that. Does she magically get it back when she gets K.O.'d and respawns? Does she have to play without it for the entire rest of the match? Or is there some other way?
Points to ponder. _________________ "" |

I don't like the fact that you can't just play as zero suit samus. I also don't like how you cant play as samus for the remainder of the match ofter using your smash ball.
I just don't like the restriction of it. What if you play with no items? No smash ball, no zero suit samus.
This MIGHT have been done because tournaments dont use items, ZSS is sheik's fast moving replacement and was "whored" in most matches therefore tournaments probably wont have this character. (but that's weird that theyd plan it all out like that)
I mean what if ZSS is a fun character to play as? Youll hardly get a chance to play her, even with smash balls on. It's not like youll always get it and we still dont know if you ever get the suit back. _________________ IM THE DUDE PLAYIN THE DUDE DISGUISED AS ANOTHER DUDE

Seems to me Samus would return to her normal suit after being KO'd... but then, what if ZSS's final smash regenerated the suit at the end? You could have her keep her current suit, changing only after you got a smash ball. This might also be a good rationale for a "start as ZSS" option.
@Fruity: Zelda/Sheik having two different final smashes? But of course! Honestly, if Sheik's even in brawl, could you see her having the exact same final smash as Zelda? _________________ This post has been brought to you by

I wouldn't expect her suit to return after a KO, mostly because of abuse of final smash. It's possible though, and as a Samus player I'm looking forward to finding out ;] _________________ when the world is sick, can't no one be well? but i dreamt we was all beautiful and strong
