Yeah, I'm really hoping ZSS can be selectable from the main menu, either by a secret thing like you can do for Shiek, or just (even though it might be weird) unlocking her after having used Samus's Final Smash or something. The only reason she wouldn't be, that I can think of, is that it's supposed to be an extension of Samus's final smash and as such she's really overpowered. But, like, we always see her in gameplay vids and stuff, so meh. I agree with Yosh, I don't like those restrictions.
Not only would it totally lock ZSS out of tournament play (assuming they don't use brawl balls in tourneys, which they ~might~ but considering how they never use items I can't see it), it'd also mean Samus users who don't like playing as ZSS just can't use her FS. I dunno I mean, it's a cool idea they had but it just seems like it's holding back one of the most fundamental aspects of the game, character options. I don't wanna start hating on an idea that I don't even know about yet, though, for all I know it could end up being mad fun newai.
| Peenith wrote: | But who is it?
Theres no main character except you, and with all the different things you were wearing and.. heads.. you could have.... how would they know which one to do.
I mean for your attacks you could catch people in nets and fishing hooks... and violently kill them with shovels and axes, but geez that doesnt fit AC at all... |
On the forums the most talked-about option is Nook, by a lot. Apparently he had his own fight club or something, and I guess he's the face of AC more than anyone else since you spend so much time either farming bells to pay off his debt or scrounging his shop for anything you need to finish up your set. (speaking of that, we haven't gone on our AC files in so long, everything's probably dead now).
Ooh, and I think today's update says something about Petey's chances for being a character. That makes sense, though, cause when Sakurai announced ATs he did say that they wanted to put in characters who otherwise wouldn't have gotten in, and I guess this is an extension of that mindset. Not that this says he'll never be a character, but it'd just make more sense to have bosses be bosses to make room for as many characters as possible.
This is more and more reminding me of kingdom hearts. If Nintendo advertises "over 100 Nintendo characters in the game! = D" on the box, I'll rofl all the way to the helipad. _________________ [quote="Someone's sig on the AoC forums"]THis game really is more geared towards the adult then, teenbeat wow. That's three of us then. When I get it I'll be half-expecting Sephiroth to be hiding as a secret ultimate fight.
Anyway, on Nook possibly being a character: I'm not too sure that'll be the case myself, given as one of those pictures on the site has Nook as a spectator. Having said that, though, it probably won't mean anything and I'll be horribly wrong with Nook arriving in a flash of Bells and throwing furniture out of his apron as his B move. I'd rather have Resetti myself, given as he's the violent one in that game. And he has a handy pick-axe.
Think the adventure mode will play out like Lylat Wars, by the way? What you do in the stages determines how you move through the story. Say, for instance, you save Peach and Zelda gets nabbed, would the story play out differently than if you saved Zelda instead? Different characters and different stages? |

That's a very intresting thought, but I have a feeling it's like (at least at first) you play as Kirby and:
A. Save Peach. Peach is your teammate. You have to find Mario and save Zelda.
B. Save Zelda. Zelda is your teammate. You have to find Mario and save Peach.
Or, a new thought, maybe petey owns the crap out of Kirby and you play the first level as Mario (since, ya know, Marios the main char of Nintendo) wherever he landed after he got owned by the cannonball.
I really don't know it's a very complicated starting movie. _________________ IM THE DUDE PLAYIN THE DUDE DISGUISED AS ANOTHER DUDE

Well, are we certain it's even the first level?
For the record, unless it's central to the story/unlockables to play both ways, I'd probably always go with Zelda. I dunno. Given the choice, I'd say Zelda > Peach. _________________ This post has been brought to you by

Well, come on now, this is Petey forkin' Pirhanna we're dealing with. He is not known for his mad speed skillz.
He'll probably swing one cage at you and then give you a chance to damage it... then the other, etc. _________________ This post has been brought to you by

So today's special magical update was...
curry. That you eat, and erupt into burning madness! It works like a Fire Flower, but you're able to perform other attacks while the fire involuntarily spews out in all directions. _________________

That item rocks.
I mean, it's from Kirby's Dream Land 1. That alone makes it rock. _________________ This post has been brought to you by

That's actually the best item ever - if not for the lava-based curry, then for the distinct possibility that they might play that brilliant theme from Kirby's Dreamland whenever somebody picks it up. _________________ ~Banjo-Fella |

Nice. That deserves a hearty lawl. I wonder if it will randomly appear amidst other "normal" food items, or be a totally separate thing? It seems to bear the same graphical style as the rest of the food from Melee. (Though, now that I think of it, Party Balls haven't yet been re-confirmed...)

...Huh. This article is actually almost a month old, but I don't believe it was ever mentioned here -- and I hadn't heard about it until just now. Obviously this info hasn't been mentioned on Dojo, but it's taken directly from an interview with Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma, so I'd say it's a pretty reliable source.
Ganondorf, Sheik in Smash Bros. Brawl (August 2, 2007)
Evidently, "they've had to tweak some of the designs" -- I wonder if said tweaking includes the making of G'dorf into something other than a clone? *crosses fingers*
And of course, "there's still the matter of whether or not Zelda and Sheik will still be the same character".

NEW ASSIST Trophy - Andross
While I was downstairs making Chicken Snadwich, I thought maybe Captain Olimar might make a good character, throwing his Pikmin to do his dirty work. _________________ ???

Nice! Hopefully those tiles-o'-doom won't hurt the user too, or else it looks like it'll be of little help. Oh, and they get all the bonus points for using the SNES design.
I wonder if this leaves any possibility of having Dr. Kawashima's disembodied skull appear as an assist trophy, though. He couldn't fling rapid-fire maths equations at you, as he'd basically have the same role as Andross, but he might still be able to do something that's not been made redundant. Maybe he could chuckle at your enemies, causing them mild emotional grief. _________________ ~Banjo-Fella |

This Andross update is pretty confusing. I figured Andross would've been a boss in adventure mode... is he not? If he is, will Petey Piranha also be an AT? Hmm. I guess he didn't feel like updating with Andross's place in the story, but wanted to show him off anyway.
Also, guys don't miss the double-whammy update he did today - he was updating the site to explain special moves (which is fundamental for newcomers to the game), and in doing so gave us meta-knight's specials, which look really cool.

Yeah, it's nice to see that they'll definitely be coming back, but as what remains to be seen. Gannondorf could be demoted to a boss type, like Petey Piranha, and Sheik could turn into an AT or something lame like that. I don't think they have any ~reason~ to take two unique characters out of the playable roster, especially considering the Zelda franchise could use more reps as it is, but ya never know with this game. Careful what you say there Chorpy, the Nintendo Spies will gather this data all viral-like and they'll add Tingle to the playable roster.
Also, I'd completely forgotten about the superspicy curry in Kirby's Dreamland, but I still remember the music for it. I guess using Diddy as the guinea pig in the demo pics threw me off. _________________

Damn, two special move updates back to back. That's pretty hawt n' spicy.
From the looks of it, it seems that Squirtle's special moves are used mainly for evasive techniques. Waterfall is probably a pretty funky up - B, and my guess is it'd be hard for opponents to predict where Squirtle's headed with it. Withdrawl seems like it's a way to get out of trouble real fast, which'll be handy for someone as small as him. That said, both moves have some nice offensive capabilities too, in the same vein - they look pretty hard to get out of the way of.
As far as Ivysaur's moves, I'm curious about both of em. If you're in the air, will bullet seed still shoot straight up? If you're on the ground, will vinewhip still shoot for the air? Also, does vine-whip ~only~ latch onto ledges? If so, ouch, recovery as Ivysaur might be really tough. Either way, it seems his main thing is attacks from a distance, which is pretty cool. I wonder if his normal A attacks, and throws, function the same way.
Charizard's got the typical power character moves, and my bet is you can charge up his head-smash thing so that he can really mess up anyone who stands in his path for that long. Hopefully the flamethrower that he has is better than the wimpy crap Bowser uses. We'll see.
All in all they've got some kickin' moves, and it looks like it'll be a blast to play as 'em. = D _________________ [quote="Someone's sig on the AoC forums"]THis game really is more geared towards the adult then, teenbeat wow. Hahaha, that'd be pretty cool. Hopefully it'd have a longer range though, cause Sheik's whip was kinda wimpy.
That's one thing I'm worried about with ivysaur, though - his mobility. On a stage with multiple levels of platforms and stuff, it's important to be constantly changing ground, and Up-B plays a big part in this as you change levels while simultaneously attacking. However, it seems like ivysaur is at a disadvantage when it comes to this. Does he latch onto any platform that's nearby? If so, can vine whip ever be used to attack, or will it constantly home in on ledges?
I guess it makes sense that each pokemon has something they lack that the others must make up for - I guess ivysaur's is mobility? Still, seems weird for any smash char to be lacking that fundamental element. _________________ [quote="Someone's sig on the AoC forums"]THis game really is more geared towards the adult then, teenbeat wow. OMFG HAX.
So evidently Pit, Meta Knight, and Charizard really can fly. Well, it's not so much actual "flying" as it is controlled falling.
Obviously, the greatest benefit to this skill is the ease of getting back to the stage from any distance -- a la Peach's glide/parasol skills. I'm not too worried about Pit and MK since they're lighter characters, like Peach... But with C'zard being heavy, won't this make him excruciatingly difficult to KO? _________________ "" |

Yes, exactly. I wonder how they'll implement this "tiring" feature on the Pokemon trainer.
Anyway, the flying wins. I wonder if you'll be able to attack in midair whilst doing so? And then I wonder if you could resume your glide after doing so... that would be broken, but logically possible I suppose (ala Kazookie in Banjo-Tooie - IIRC you could cancel your glide to do a wing attack and then resume gliding, but I could be wrong ).
Either way, if you fork up the gliding thing, there's always a third attack. <3 Kirby Super Star's Shuttle Loop move as Metaknight's Up-B. _________________ This post has been brought to you by

Bahahahaha. That is indeed WINNER.
Today's update is, as can be expected on Fridays, a new stage! But not just any stage... an incredibly bizarre one.
I wonder if the challenges really only last 5 seconds each, as Sakurai indicates? If so, the stage will be completely changing its design every five seconds... That's ridiculously fast-paced, even for Smash. I imagine that it will pause on the basic layout for a while -- a minute, even 30 seconds -- but nonetheless, that's just crazy.
As for the "reward" that's mentioned... it can't be too huge, but maybe you get your damage percentage lowered a bit? In the first screenshot it looks as if Mario and Kirby are taking damage from being in the rain -- and obviously you'd take damage from arrows falling on your head -- so if nothing else, there's your incentive to "stay dry" and "dodge". _________________ "" |
